After a long flight from Melbourne I was meeting up with the best person in the world, at Phuket airport in Thailand. The thing was, she wasn’t there. I was jet lagged and tired, also very happy to be back in Thailand. I love this place and it feels like home to me. But after a while I started wondering where the hell Jenny was, and after asking around I found out her flight was 5 hours late. Therefore I had 5 pretty boring and nervous hours on the airport. I know flights are late every now and then but the day before, there were one more of these ‘missing flights’ (this one was found, it crashed in Indonesia apparently). So I had my rights to be worried and was so relieved when they landed.
And I finally got to see Jenny again! This was the day before new years eve so we got the first ferry to Phi Phi Island the morning after. Now ladies and gentlemen, I was home.
Happy New Year!!
(Sorry for the 2 month delay…)
We spend about 6 weeks on Phi Phi Island, relaxing, partying, meeting a lot of people and heaps more. 6 weeks?! you think, that’s too much. Well, no not if you ask me. We were here for a long time last year as well and met so much locals and had so much fun here so we just had to go back. Like i said, it feels like home and I’m going back here again next year (woho, already planning).
After about a week of chilling on the beach, sleeping and just relaxing I woke up by a strange sound.
Dripping water… I thought it was raining at first, cause we had pretty bad weather the first couple of weeks with some rain. Then I noticed it was dripping from the ceiling…and the whole room had about a decimetre of water all over the floor. All my stuff was soaked. Lucky for the people working that morning my computer and all other electronic didn’t get wet.
I’m not sure if you can see it but there’s a lot of water on the floor…
At least they upgraded us to a air-conditioned room so we were pretty happy about it after all.
I got my yearly Thailand sickness, oh well…second year in a row now! Fever, sore throat and eye infection. Yippie! No, it wasn’t fun at all to be in bed while everyone else headed to the beach. I tried to be strong and go out for dinner with friends one night but this ended in shivering and sweating so hard people probably thought I had been swimming. Sore throat made it hard to eat, and people asked me if I’d been in a fight when I had the eye infection… -No guys, I just get these things every now and then!
This didn’t ruin all 6 weeks of course. We had so many amazing days at the beach as well as many crazy nights on the dance floor, with a bucket at the ready!
Looks stunning, I know! I just want to go back to this beautiful place.
Phi Phi is a pretty small island without cars, you walk everywhere. The locals use bicycles to get places faster and it takes a few days to get used to them… the streets are namely very small and the bike-riders ofter use their voice as a bell. Beep-beep! Or Phi-Phiii! They also use small wagons to carry goods from the pier, everything from food to building materials to your suitcase. So be alert and move if you hear someone behind you screaming beep-beep.
So you can walk everywhere and that’s what we did. The main beach was just a five minutes walk from our room but mostly we went to Long Beach. This beach is a 20-30 minutes walk but it’s totally worth it when you get there, dripping in sweat and just run into the crystal blue water. The main beach is nice to but the tide is making the water quite dirty every now and then and you also have to walk a long way just to get water up your knees. Stunning and beautiful still of course! Just don’t miss Long Beach. Get a long tail boat from the pier for 100 baht pp or take the beautiful walk.
Phi Phi Island View point
Everyone should go here, they say. I’ve been living on Phi Phi for more than three month put together and I still haven’t been there. I’ve seen it in pictures though! Looks beautiful, and yes I should go there…but I have to save something for next time right?
More about my time on Phi Phi Island in a couple of days…anyone want to go there yet??
